Freezer Repair — Book a Visit Today
Freezers fail quietly. You notice it when the ice cream is soft or the chicken has a gray edge. Most of the time the cause is a familiar one: a defrost heater or thermostat that quit, so frost builds on the evaporator coil and blocks airflow. Other suspects are the evaporator fan motor, a door gasket flattened by years of slamming, a clogged drain, or a compressor and sealed system losing capacity. Salt air off the water also eats at exposed terminals and chassis screws, and that shows up as odd electrical behavior. A visit starts with a temperature reading, then a look behind the rear panel. Call us and we will find an evening or weekend window that fits your commute.

The freezer symptoms we hear most
- Everything in there is soft but the light still comes on Sealed system or compressor not cooling — refrigerant charge, start relay, or compressor failure
- There's a wall of frost on the back panel Defrost system fault — heater, bimetal thermostat, or defrost control board
- It hums loud, then goes quiet for hours Condenser or evaporator fan motor bearing wear, or a cycling overload protector
- Water pools under the drawer and freezes into a sheet Blocked defrost drain tube or misaligned drain pan
- The door pops back open unless I shove it Compressed or torn gasket, worn hinge cam, or an overfilled shelf blocking the seal
Safe things to check first
Worth a look before you call — sometimes it saves you the visit.
- 1Set a cup of water inside with a thermometer and see if it holds near zero degrees after a few hours.
- 2Pull the unit out and vacuum the condenser coils and the grille where dust and pet hair pack in.
- 3Slide a dollar bill in the door and close it — if it slides out with no drag, the gasket is done.
- 4Confirm the outlet is live by testing a lamp in it, and check the breaker before assuming the freezer died.
How it works
- Step 1
Tell us what it's doing
Describe the noise, the leak, the error code on the panel. Brand and rough age help too. We use that to bring likely parts on the first trip instead of guessing in your kitchen.
- Step 2
Pick a window that works
Many of our neighbors leave before sunrise and get home after six. We schedule around trains and traffic, including later slots, so nobody burns a vacation day waiting on a repair van.
- Step 3
Diagnose, then repair
Our technician tests the machine, finds the failed part, and explains what's wrong in plain words. You approve the work before anything gets replaced. Most repairs finish during that same visit.

Guides & troubleshooting
Freezer Repair — quick answers
How cold should my freezer actually be?
Zero degrees Fahrenheit is the target. A few degrees warmer will still make ice but food quality drops and frost builds faster. If your setting is correct and the box is warm, something mechanical or electrical needs attention.
Is a chest freezer worth repairing?
Often yes. Chest freezers are mechanically simple, so a bad thermostat, lid gasket, or start relay is usually a straightforward fix. We look at age, the specific part that failed, and the condition of the cabinet before recommending anything.
Why does frost keep coming back after I defrost it manually?
Manual defrosting clears the symptom, not the cause. If the automatic defrost heater or thermostat has failed, ice returns within weeks. Warm humid air leaking past a bad gasket does the same thing. Both are repairable.
Can you come after work?
Evening and weekend windows are part of how we schedule, since most Long Island households are not home midday. Tell us your commute when you call us and we will aim for a slot that does not cost you a vacation day.
Should I move my food before you arrive?
If the freezer is already warming, yes — pack food in coolers with ice or borrow a neighbor's space. Keeping the door shut buys you some hours. Anything above forty degrees for two hours should be discarded.
Does hard water affect a freezer?
It affects the ice maker most. Scale coats the fill tube, the mold, and the water valve, so cubes come out hollow, small, or fused together. Descaling and a valve or filter replacement usually restores normal production.

Why homeowners call us
- Salt air is factored inCoastal humidity eats at terminals, brackets, and control boards. We look for corrosion behind the panel, not just the obvious broken part. Cleaning and protecting connections helps the repair hold up through another damp winter.
- Hard water knowledgeScale clogs dishwasher spray arms, coats heating elements, and stiffens water valves. When your dishes come out gritty or the washer fills slowly, mineral buildup is often the culprit. We check for it every time.
- Wide service areaHomeowners across six Northeastern states reach us for laundry, kitchen, and cooling repairs. Refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, dishwashers, ovens, ranges, and cooktops. One number to call whichever appliance quit on you.
- Straight talk on old unitsSometimes a repair makes clear sense. Sometimes the machine is worn past the point of value, and we say so. You get an honest read on the condition before deciding to fix or replace.
- All major brands, gas & electricWhirlpool, Samsung, LG, GE, Maytag, Bosch, KitchenAid and more — as an independent repair company.
- Straight answersIf it isn't worth repairing, we'll say so — often on the phone.
